Mettabbana

Washington DC

Mettabbana started as a vinyl collector with a heavy leaning toward world tunes, which took him to digging through forgotten vinyl crates in Dakar homes or buying music from the streets of Maputo and Luanda. He found his way into DJing by wanting to spread with others his love for the grooves he would discover. His sets usually consist of global organic bass tracks (including own remixes), melding raw analog and urban electronic music from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, the Balkans and beyond. In other, more contemplative times, his sets can take a dive into minimal afro-tech, and deep/ancestral house.

He has been an active part in building DC’s world/global bass music scenes by playing regularly at venues such as Tropicalia, Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club, Zeba bar and at DC international festivals. He has co-founded a number of monthly and bimonthly global music events in DC like Analog Soul Club, Tropic of Bass and 1,001 Beats. Mettabbana is a core part of the Meso Creso cross-cultural arts collective musical lineup, and you will be able to find him at the PEXSF Meso Creso camp weaving infectious global beats that will get you shaking-and-a-stomping.
