Beyond the Festival explores how creativity and the culture created by amazing, groundbreaking events like burns and transformational festivals can influence and benefit the rest of the world. In this conversation we explore how arts and culture are traditionally used as tools for community and even economic development, and how the unique art and culture of festivals represents a unique perspective that brings fresh ideas and possibilities into the nationally explosive phenomenon of creative placemaking. Learn how to infiltrate the system like the red pill and blow minds for a living.
Biography
Kitty Love is executive director of the Asheville Area Arts Council, a non profit arts and culture organization serving Buncombe County, North Carolina. The Asheville Area Arts Council is the collective voice for the arts, advancing Buncombe County by leading innovative collaborations, delivering resources, and fostering creativity throughout the community. The AAAC provides grants, exhibitions, workforce development in creative industries, arts advocacy and collaborative partnerships, and accessibility to the arts for the under served. Kitty has served as director since December of 2011.
Kitty is a professionally trained artist, and has engaged in a lifetime of creative entrepreneurial projects, including mural art, retail craft, interior design, tattoo, and five years as a downtown Asheville gallery owner. In 2001, Kitty became engaged in community-building arts activism, including the creation of one of Asheville's most popular street festivals. She is known locally as a dedicated team player, bringing strong ideas and leadership to bear on community and economic development through the arts.
