Sexy West Coast Swing Dance
Baby Firefly
Sunday, 5pm @ The Pavilion
West Coast Swing is one of the most versatile and sexy of all the swing dance styles! Come learn the basic WCS foundation steps, connect to your partner (or meet someone new), and have fun dancing to all styles of music; from blues, to R&B, to electronic!
With the basic West Coast Swing step sounding like the name of a candy (Sugar Push, yum!), how could you go wrong? Come solo or with a partner and learn foundation steps to one of the most popular partner dance styles in the country. Smooth and rolling, WCS allows for lots of variety in the music you can dance to, and where you can dance it! The best part about WCS? It's sexy! It takes all your sultry, playful styling and turns it into a flirtatious, fun, push-pull style dance!
Biography
Rachel Surridge started dancing at the age of 3 with Ballet, Modern and Jazz. She trained as a pre-professional ballet dancer for 14 years at the Northeast Academy of Dance, in both the Vaganova and Chechetti methods of dance. Throughout her teen years she participated in numerous theatrical productions around New England, as both a performer and choreographer (having studied Theatre Arts Movement). Rachel came to Fred Astaire Dance Studios as an amateur competitor in 2009, and was a consistent championship division winner. In 2011 with her amateur partner she earned the Eastern United States Amateur Championship Rhythm title as well as being a National Amateur Rhythm Finalist. Rachel started her professional teaching/competitive career in 2011 and with her first professional partner, Andrew Kerski, had the success of being a Regional Pro Rhythm Finalist as well as Eastern US Dancesport Pro Rhythm Finalist, and Tri State Challenge Rising Star Pro Rhythm Finalist. She continues to compete and perform all over the country with her new partner. She is certified in FADS curriculum, is qualified to teach ProDVIDA curriculum (Professional Dance Vision International Dance Association), and is a member of the NDCA (National Dance Council of America, the US representative of the World Dance Council). She is also a certified Zumba Fitness instructor!
Rachel is located in New England, and trains on a regular basis with her main coach, Diana McDonald (former US Pro Latin champion). She considers her own dance training an imperative part of competition, and a way to gain constant information to pass onto her students. She takes great pride in making dance fun and enjoyable, and making her students leave their lessons with a good workout...and a smile.”
