A Sand mandala is the meditative practice of making an elaborate mandala out of colorful grains of sand using chakpur tools. The design is drawn out and the sand is meticulously placed in the design using the chakpur to guide the grains into place. Once complete, the mandala is destroyed in a ritual process. The creation and destruction of the mandala represents the creation and destruction of the universe and the impermanence of all things. The sand mandala will be constructed throughout the course of the weekend with a ritual closing ceremony on the final day. The sand mandala will be housed in a sacred space allowing people to rest, reflect, and rejuvenate in a serene environment.
